LEARN ABOUT BUTTERFLIES DAY

March 14th is Learn About Butterflies Day.

Created in the mid-1980s, National Learn About Butterflies Day provides an opportunity to help educate people about these beautiful, delicate creatures. Butterflies have existed since prehistoric times, with over 28,000 species worldwide. From their bright colors to their graceful flight patterns, it’s no wonder why butterflies are so fascinating.

With springtime right around the corner, here are some ways to celebrate Learn About Butterflies Day all spring and summer long.

  • Butterflies come in all sorts of beautiful shapes, sizes, and colors from the majestic monarch to the fluttery blue morpho. Butterflies offer a stunning reminder of how truly breathtaking nature can be.
  • Taking some time to watch butterflies is fascinating and relaxing. Spend an afternoon outside, and you might spot multiple impressive species during their migration.
  • From fruits and vegetables to cottonwoods, butterflies provide invaluable assistance with the critical process of pollination. Without them, our gardens and crops would not produce as much food as they do now. So why not celebrate National Learn About Butterflies Day by planting butterfly-friendly flowers in your yard?

The best way to learn more about these creatures is to observe them. Next time you see a butterfly in passing, take a second and enjoy butterflies in the landscape.
