Sealed Well Abandonment Program (SWAP)
In an effort to encourage landowners to properly seal wells that are no longer used, the Lewis and Clark Natural Resources District (LCNRD) offers a sealed well abandonment cost share program. This program provides funds for sealing irrigation or domestic wells that are no longer needed and which should be properly closed to prevent safety hazards and groundwater contamination. The proper plugging of wells takes time and money. The LCNRD is offering 75% cost-share to properly seal abandoned wells. Abandonment of the well must be completed by a licensed well driller and a notice of well decommissioning form sent to the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (NDNR).
Sign up anytime at the LCNRD, your local Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), or complete the application and return it to the LCNRD. Sealed well cost share program application .
Non cost-shareable items include, but are not limited to removal of windmill tower, pump removal, and concrete cover removal, etc.
